Activities

In keeping with the National Society objectives of historic preservation, education, and patriotism, our chapter is involved in a variety of activities.

DAR Service to Patriotism

We support our troops, both veterans as well as active military personnel, with our past and ongoing donations that include:

  • sending long-distance calling cards to wounded soldiers in Landstuhl Hospital, Germany
  • supplies to Just A Center
  • donating fast-food gift cards to wounded soldiers
  • sending care-packages to active troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan
  • donating books and magazines to the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Medical Center
  • our volunteer “Memorial Ladies” attend the burial service of veterans at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona
  • donating toys, school supplies, and Christmas stockings filled with goodies, to Arizona military families through our “Operation Homefront” project
  • donating baby baskets filled with necessities and “niceties,” for our often overlooked pregnant veterans
  • laying of flags at the tombstones in the National Cemetery for Memorial Day
  • Laying of wreaths in December as part of “Wreaths Across America

DAR Service to Education

  • we support all the DAR schools
  • we continue to donate books to our local Arizona Literacy and Learning Center
  • labels and box tops for DAR schools
  • we actively engage in local school participation in the American History Essay Contest honoring the winners with a certificate and cash prize. Winners are then entered into the state contest. For more information regarding the essay contest, please contact the American History Essay Chair.
  • Constitution Week

DAR Service to Historic Preservation

  • we support the renovation of the Madonna of the Trail in Springerville, Arizona, honoring the spirit of the Pioneer Woman
  • speakers have shared with us the importance of, as well as the ways of, preserving old photos and memorabilia
  • our “history moment” is shared at each of our meetings, reviewing past events in history
  • ┬áthe “American Indian Minute” expands our knowledge of the culture of Native Americans
  • we support the Special Grants Project that provides financial support to local community projects
